Lavender hydrosol is an amazing product with a multitude of uses - skin toner, natural bug repellent, deodorizer, surface cleaner, skin soother (bug bites, poison ivy, rashes, burns), cooling mist (great for a hot day at the beach or hot flashes), yoga mat refresher, natural disinfectant, dry shampoo and the list goes on.
So what is hydrosol? At Field & Flock, we steam distilled our lavender which produces two products, essential oil and hydrosol. Both products have similar benefits, however, the difference is in the concentrations. Lavender essential oil is a concentrated oil extracted from the plant. On the other hand, lavender hydrosol contains a high percentage of water and trace amounts of essential oil, so it’s ready to use without a carrier oil. Surprisingly, hydrosol has a unique honey-like scent. I find the fragrance to be sweet, earthy and pleasant.
We produce approximately 100 gallons of lavender hydrosol each season. A large portion is bottled and sold in our store, however, hydrosol is also a main ingredient in several of our best selling products, so we use every ounce, every year.
