We are now offering distillation services to lavender growers utilizing our three (3) - 15 gallon copper distillers or our 140 gallon stainless steel distiller.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

 

We are only offering full runs, so the lavender plant material will need to be tightly packed and fill the distiller. Why? The steam should pass slowly and effectively through the lavender material without bypassing the flowers.

 

So, how much lavender will you need?

 

• One (1) - 30 gallon tub, tightly packed, fills approximately one (1) 15 gallon copper distiller.

 

• Four (4) to five (5) – 30 gallon tubs, tightly packed, fills the 140 gallon stainless steel distiller.

 

For reference, we use 30 gallon storage tubs filled with fresh lavender and stems tightly packed.

 

PROCESS:

 

The steam distillation process takes approximately 2-3 hours from start, including set-up, to completion of distillation. This will vary depending on the distiller utilized. You are welcome to observe as your lavender is distilled, and we’ll be happy to explain the general process as each step is completed, however, distillation services are not intended to provide instruction.  If you are interested in learning how to distill your own lavender, we offer a Lavender Bootcamp Module for that purpose.

 

WHAT TO EXPECT:

 

It takes a significant amount of lavender to produce essential oil. This is one of the reasons that the runs are distilled full and packed. The yield and quality of the essential oil and hydrosol will depend on a number of factors and conditions, such as:

 

• Variety (French varieties will produce more oil than English varieties).

• Dried buds vs. fresh. 

• Amount of flowers vs. stems.

• Condition of your harvest (plant stress/bloom timing).

• Health of your Lavender Plants.

• Soil Conditions.

• Weather (drought vs. watering)

RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

You will be responsible for bringing your own bottles for your essential oil and containers for your hydrosol.  Additionally, you are responsible for taking the spent lavender that is cleaned out of the distiller. Please contact us to discuss what type and size containers are best suited.

 

PRICING:

 

A $50 non-refundable deposit is due upon booking.

 

The cost for one (1) full run utilizing the 140 gallon stainless steel distiller is $500.

 

The cost for one (1) full run utilizing the 15 gallon copper distiller is $250,

Each additional run in our 15 gallon copper distillers is $100. We have the capability of running three 15 gallon stills at once.

 

HOW WE ARRIVED AT OUR FEE:

• Our time:  2-3 hours for distilling plus a second run to clean the distiller.

• Expertise:  We learned from a master distiller and have processed our own lavender for the last five years.

• Utility costs:  The copper distillers run on electric, the stainless still works on propane.
