Farm Life - Funny and Fulfilling

We moved to our farm twenty-one years ago, in February 2004.  Neither of us had lived on a farm before, and we certainly had a lot to learn!

As I sit here writing, I am literally laughing so hard that I’m crying.  Looking back at some of our experiences in those early years and the way we handled them, well, you just have to laugh.  Imagine finding a couple of horses on the front lawn or a flying squirrel in the garage. How about being dragged down the street in the dark by a runaway cow? And, I can’t tell you how many times we called the vet, explained the problem we were having, only to ask, “You want me to do what?!"

Even now, funny and unbelievable things still happen to us.  The difference is in how we respond.  The “adventures” we’ve had over the last two decades have taught us to stay calm (or at least try) and to be more resourceful in our problem solving.

Our experiences have taught us much more than how to survive in the country or care for farm animals.  We’ve learned about grit and determination.  We’ve also learned to enjoy a life that’s less complicated and more fulfilling.  I can honestly say, moving to the farm is the best decision we ever made.
